I was disappointed at first when I saw this. I thought it was silk in the beginning, but the sequin-ey silver is amazing. Every time that I see her with Pacey (or, Joshua Jackson) it makes me smile. I love him and it makes me love her. The train makes this so elegant and beautiful. I love the photo from behind because it was so elegant. The lighting and the framing of the dress is stunning. This shows the whole “slow and steady wins the race” thing, the subtlety is what makes this.

Always, more Oscar gowns…

I have gone back and forth on Paltrow’s gown — but the verdict is positive at this moment. It’s simple, of course. Glamorous, of course. And just no complains. I was a little disappointed in Portman’s Rodarte but there really aren’t many options for her right now. It was a very sweet political move wearing Rodarte to this because of her nomination for the film that they dressed. I hate Tomei’s vintage gown but only because it is just way too old Hollywood. It is not at all current though. I love the old ones (i.e. Hathaway) but this one just is too an extent. It’s from, I believe, the 1950’s, and eh Ok I don’t feel like saying more about it. Not my style but it’s a wonderful sentiment.

Who else was completely caught off guard by the fact that Swank’s gown is Gucci? I was so surprised. Seriously astonishing. It was so Marchesa in my mind that I even kept looking for it in the Marchesa galleries. Bullock wore a really nice Wang dress — nothing compared to her Red Carpet stunner that will literally be infamous like Julia Roberts’ Cavalli. Which brings me too Witherspoon’s gown which is slightly reminiscent of that historic look. It’s nice, very simple and clean. So there we go.

Helena Bonham Carter toned it down for this event — although there is a major bustle in the back which is pretty fabulous. The designer, Colleen Atwood, is the woman who worked on HBC’s film, Alice in Wonderland so that’s a nice little pair. Halle Berry wore a really intense Marchesa. Not what I consider their best work and definitely not the most unusual. I love Marchesa’s unique ideas and this is a pretty standard idea. Sharon Stone wore the strangest Dior gown which looked as if it had a dead bird embellished on it. Celine Dion — My idol for her fabulous car-jams, my friends and I quite enjoy the old school quality on summer dyas — worked this shit out of an Armani Prive gown so soon after poppin out twins. How she did it I will never know and am I bit scared to find out.
