The Stella McCartney Reign of the 2011 Met Gala

May 4, 2011 § Leave a comment

There were SO MANY McCartney dresses — I was appalled and confused. I never saw her as a really strong Met Gala contendor. Kate Hudson’s dress is beautiful and ethereal. Then again, she is pregnant.

Eva Mendes has been experimenting with this flowy, shapeless style of dress for a few weeks now and it’s interesting just (obviously) not that flattering. I love the blue on her but she has no form under this. It’s unfortunate.

Gwyneth Paltrow looks ridiculously elegant. She always goes with this type of simple sheath, never experiments with structure, but I love this style on her.

Naomi Watt’s dress completely bores me. It could be an space-filler in a J. Mendel collection or even something simpler.

Thandie Newton looks ridiculously sexy, I love this dress.

But it is Rihanna who really stole the show. I can’t believe this dress, and her hair. Everything was amazing. The really long braid is gorgeous and while the concept of braids makes me think of middle school, Rihanna does not fulfill this stereotypical thought. The dress is so flattering and elegant. The lace is just stunning. This is my favorite thing she’s worn in awhile — so understated while so powerful. Well done Riri.
