Hana Soukupova at the CFDA Fashion Awards

I was surprised that it took so long for Marchesa to appear at the CFDA Awards. I have been finding the complete presence of Marchesa on absolutely every runway to be a bit overdone. I love every collection and every aspect of every piece — there is a care and intricacy that is lacking in many current designs. Soukupova worked this like no one’s business — she has the height and presence to embody this dress as it is meant to be embodied. In fact, I almost take back all my feelings about Marchesa. Any and every celeb thinks that can rock a piece of this, yet only a select few can. Hana Soukupova is one of that elite.

I love this old Marchesa dress — and strangely enough, Trachtenberg’s character on GG wasn’t the only celeb to wear it this season. Sandra Oh wore the same dress to the NAACP awards in March. Trachtenberg holds herself with such poise and attitude that it takes on a new form. Love this.

Anything Marchesa makes me drool. I feel like I would appreciate this more had she not worn such an amazing piece earlier in the day. The lavender is so sweet and the little bustle at the bottom. THe embroidery over the sheer = delicious. Well done, Cruz. This promotional tour for Pirates has been a huge boost to her style cred. HUGE.

I DIE, LADIES, I DIE. Talk about the most amazing choice. THIS WINS. HELL. THIS WINS MET GALA DRESSES. She’s literally nude, covered in sheer, embroidered fabric. She looks miraculous. Her hair is curled and the entire look is retro in the new perception of old hollywood. I will file a complaint about her Casadei heels. The shine, the taupe satin just doesn’t work. It’s like a sexy lobster to me.

Miranda Kerr at the 2011 Met Gala

Talk about a dreamy dress. Miranda Kerr, a mere weeks after popping out a baby with possibly the most amazing genetic make-up ever, stuns in a couture gown at the most high profile fashion event of the year. I love her head dress and shoes, a way to add a dose of edge to this completely princess-dress. While I do think that the white is so white it rings bridal to me, this is a really bold move and a well orchestrated one. She looks like a swan princess in this and while I don’t think it’s completely right for the event I really love it so therefore, I deem it a-ok and impressive. The tulle over the tutu part is what gets me, it feels unordered to me. I’m also wondering how she arrived — you can’t sit in a car in this piece, or can you?

Fergie at the 2011 Met Gala

Personally, not a huge fan of this. The Marchesa piece is so dainty and airy and Fergie is not. She’s a presence, she’s got power and she is by no means a quiet girl which is what this dress says to me. Her boobs alone look as if they will burst the dress, she looks as if she’s so restricted in it and can’t breathe or move. I love the dress and I give Fergie complete credit for attempting to go here but it’s just not the right step in my mind.

Olivia Palermo at the Couple of the Year 2011 Event in Germany

This is a best of the year contender in my mind — literally one of the most beautiful thing I have ever seen in my life. While this is a red carpet repeat (Elle Fanning wore the Marchesa piece in the fall, before I began my blog), I don’t see any comparison between the two. Palermo just looks absolutely deadly sexy, elegant…just stunning all over. Her clutch is by Club Monaco and studded and excellent and the seriously bold move of wearing the red and black satin pumps with the dress is so risky but works — her style acumen is above anyone else’s. The updo is classic and beautiful and really what separates her style from Fanning’s. She’s so mature and rather than working this as kind of an innocent and old look as Fanning does, she just dresses it up and keeps it old elegance.
